Valentines day is such a fun holiday!  I always find myself wishing I had done something more exciting for the kids valentines for their friends at school.
This year I started looking early, to be more prepared.


When I was a little girl on Valentines night, my Mom would take us around to neighborhood people and friends to leave them a fun Valentine, ring the door bell and run! As I have grown older, I have discovered that that is not the norm.  Or is it?
I remember my Grandma Ellen leaving a huge St. Bernard Stuff animal at our front door one Valentines morning before we went to school!  It has vividly stayed in my memory!


These are all the things I want to do this year for friends and the kids friends.  Whether or not it will pan out is another story. 

Bubbly Valentines Love Potion!
I discovered this from  eisforexplore.blogspot.com.  I was super excited because Jared has always raved about this slush that his Mom use to make for parties.  I think this is what he is talking about.  He will be excited!  I think I will serve this for our little family Valentines party that night.  The kids love a good drink!


Yield 4-6
1 (12-ounce) can pink lemonade concentrate
4 cups raspberry sherbet
1(12-ounce) can of sprite


In a pitcher mix the lemonade concentrate w/ the recommended amount of water.
In a blender, combine the sherbet w/4 cups of lemonade mixture, mix until combined. Pour into individual glasses. Add the soda, stir gently and serve.

Talmage has an awesome imagination.  Something is always brewing in his speedy little mind.  

Today, he put on a play for Jonah and me from his bedroom closet.  Their room looked like a Lego bomb blew up. The best part of it was when he told me "No flash photography is allowed".  Where does he come up with it?!  The second best part was Jacob hiding in the back ground as the sound.  Streaming songs from his Ipad!  Ha!

My little "Jones"...  Indiana that is, was in the back yard playing "Indy" by himself today. (His brothers were at school)  

A little over a year ago Jonah wore his Indiana Jones hat for months, all day every day.  He even slept with it next to him at night! 

 One day, about a year ago, I decided to wash the hat on the top rack of our dishwasher.  When the wash cycle was over, we opened the dishwasher to discover his beloved Indiana Jones hat was no longer brown, it was a weird blue/gray! He looked so disappointed.  I felt like such a CREEP! He never wore it again. :( 

  Today, I looked out the window to see the most delightful sight. Indiana Jones was back! Like the good old days.

I pulled this perfect little note up in my email yesterday.  I love it.  It is straight to the point.

 Talmage was thrilled to think that Gideon, one of his close friends was thinking of him.  (Gideon's Dad is doing a Pediatric Residency in Rochester New York) Talmage misses his dear friends daily!  Aches for Cade.  Dreams of playing with them all soon. His little world is so different since we have moved.  

Talmage had a sweet smile for a bit after he got that note.

I love short and sweet notes that lets the other know that they are being thought of! It takes a minute to make a big difference.  

I treasure my little love notes.

Lamps, pictures and candy oh my!

The lamp was a goodwill brass lamp I picked up.   I am really into raspberry colors as of late.  You can only imagine my excitement to find this color at Home Depot! Truly, my picture does not capture the color of the lamp. I would call it a deep purple though.  It makes me happy whenever I see it. You might say it lightens my life. Ha!

Over Christmas, Jared and I were hanging out at his Brother and Chandelle's house.  We were admiring all the renovations that they had recently done to their awesome house.  When out of the corner of my eye, I saw this picture they had hanging.  I ran to it and sang it's praises, begging  it to come home with me!  Darrol told us that this girl that he works with had made it for them for Christmas!  She does it in pen!  The day that we were leaving Darrol showed up with this picture above.  He had called her and asked if she would do another one. She did, and quickly for that matter!  I love the frame too.  That was included.  The most amazing part to this, is that she never thought she was that good.  Darrol discovered her talents when he needed a Thank you card...she sketched him out one, and from there he has tried to tell her that people would buy her stuff!      

This is supposed to be incentive for the kids to earn! 

Unless, you just open the top with the key and eat to your hearts content in the middle of the night!

Isn't it great to be inspired?  I love when I feel that fire in me start to burn and I know exactly what I need to do.

I often times tell myself, I'll do that in the future when I have more energy.  

The truth of the matter is, there is usually never a perfect time to pull paint out, tape things up, plaster plastic all over and paint away.

I just need to DO IT!

Like this morning,  I am going to paint in my family room.  Just one wall.  I am shooting for that great feeling of completion!

On this particular post from "House of Turquoise", they are trying to figure out what color of paint was actually used on these cabinets.

I looked on oururbanbungalow.com who posted this picture from the April issue of Southern living. This is Benjamin Moore's Stratton blue!  Benjamin Moore says this color is part of the Historic Color collection. Refined and elegant.

This is what I have come up with for the Palladian Blue!

~Jack Scruggs says, "the color throughout the day can go from grey-blue to blue-green."  He also states, "the color looks great with their cream-colored draperies and linens."

I almost think those cabinets are Palladian blue!  

In fact...this is the color I am going to paint my wall today!

Some of my FAVORITE PROJECTS

My  favorite "things" in my house are the projects that I did with my own two hands.

Above is the dresser turned "buffet"  that has been with our family since the first year that Jared was in Medical school.  So, five years ago I went into a Goodwill in Henderson and I instantly spotted this dresser.  It cost me 19.99.! I was not even looking for it. I was there looking for sterling silver platters. 

When I told Jared that I  had bought a dresser at Goodwill, and asked him if he would he mind picking it up, he was not thrilled.  

He brought it home even less impressed with my choice.  He could not see the vision I had.

The dresser was an ugly brown and had some wear and tear.

I assured him it would be worth the 20.00!

I cleaned and sprayed Lysol all over the dresser.  I took the hardware off and sprayed the tired brassy handles black.  I choose my favorite red spray paint and then... sprayed, wiping swipe marks with a paper towel as I went.

   

Again I purchased a ugly brown dresser and painted it to be this above "Buffet"

I love it because I worked hard on it.  I changed out the hardware to crystal knobs.  Painted the trim a darker color too.

I bought this one at a consignment store.  It was black.  Just fine.  However, I love color! I hand painted it yellow and then  sanded.

This Queen Ann Chair I bought off of Craigslist from a Consigner who sold furniture from Las Vegas Hotel Rooms that were being redone. Great bones! Painted from brown to cream.

I am sad that I do not have before  pictures.  I have had so much fun doing all of them.  Projects are my fuel.  

I must say that these pieces become much more than just furniture. It's  so much fun to give an old tired piece a new personality!   

Meeting Needs

I looked at my three boys yesterday morning and realized that they each had needs that they needed to have met.  I was groggy and still wanted to sleep in my warm cozy bed.  My hard working husband (doing his residency) had left a lot earlier.  Nobody else was going to help these guys out.  The responsibility weighed heavily on me.  My cute Jonah's pleas for chocolate milk needed to be addressed quickly!  Another plea for help because the toilet was clogged, made me want for sure want to pull the covers up over my head!  I knew that I was needed though.  Not just to pour and plunge.  I was needed to listen and encourage.  Laugh and create a happy day for these three guys who were relying on me to make things happen for them.

  

Jared is wonderful at meeting others needs.  This picture sums the guy up.  He is my fix-it man.  He pulls the load of all of our needs.  Then he goes and meets the needs of his patients too.   I worry often if his poor needs are met.  

We all have needs!  Sometimes, it is someone just acknowledging a need, that can meet a need.  Which lead me to realize how fortunate I am.  My needs are met.  When I need a need met,  I don't have to wait long for it to be addressed.  I am blessed with a spouse, parents, family and friends who always come to the aid of whatever I am in need of!  That is HUGE!  Do I meet their needs? 

I jumped out of bed and smiled.  I was happy to meet the needs of these precious guys.  Thankful to have my health, and people in my life to meet the needs of.  Which sometimes, is just being hugged and told how loved they are!

I have heard Kingman called (an ant hill) a lot of things , but NEVER as wonderful as what that sticker said. I am discovering that "Kingman" is a beautiful metropolis of some really good people.  I  do work diligently at finding "charm" in my new Village/Town.

My winter project begins!

I wrote a few months ago about my winter project.  Remember the snazzy little camper parked on the side of my house?  She is just sitting waiting for my TLC!   The picture above my Utes camper is my inspiration!  I am thrilled with the possibilities.

Jared worried that I might turn my winter project into our little money pit.  I promised him that I will not.  Really, how could I turn it into a money pit if there IS no money?  I assured him that it won't be The Taj Mahal.  Just a sweet simple little camper to take camping.

I have considered many colors to paint The Taj (my campers new name) ;)

 Just hoping that when I am done sanding the old paint off, there will be a camper left to paint. What if it is so old that when I put the sander to it, it disintegrates?  No no it can't! I must remain positive.

I also have great plans for the interior too.  It's what is inside that counts!

One day we would love to own a cabin.  For now, this will be our cabin.  Ha!  Our "poor mans cabin".  Being poor can be fun too!  Really excited at the thought of the memories waiting to be had.
